A new genre: test and explore scientific ideas through play
Scientific Hypothesis Games (Sci-Hy) invite players to explore and test scientific theories, hypotheses, and concepts through interactive systems, puzzles, and narrative. They go beyond fact presentation—players engage with reasoning, compare competing viewpoints, and feel how different theoretical frameworks change outcomes.
In Sci-Hy experiences, modes can represent different scientific approaches, illustrating how each framework leads to distinct mechanics and results. This creates an immersive path to understand scientific debates and the evolution of thought.
Pioneering the genre with Einstein’s 1949 argument
SpaceBell is the first Sci-Hy title. It explores Einstein's 1949 arguments about ensembles vs. individual systems—sidestepping Bell's theorem by focusing on single-system modeling. The game clarifies that Einstein advocated “Additional Variables” models, aiming to solve the ultraviolet catastrophe classically, develop new spectral energy distributions, create new oscillators for radiation, and establish a new Planck's constant.
This approach extends to photons and seeks a new wave function with a Hamiltonian where observables commute and variables are knowable—capturing the scientific hypothesis at the heart of SpaceBell.
